This chapter provides information about the hardware and software requirements and the installation procedure for Oracle Transparent Gateway for Ingres II for Solaris Operating System(SPARC) and hp-ux. It contains the following sections:

4.1 Hardware Requirements

Table 4-1 shows the hardware requirements for Oracle Transparent Gateway for Ingres II.

Table 4-1 Hardware requirements for Oracle Transparent Gateway for Ingres II

Hardware Items Required for HP 9000 Series hp_ux Required for Solaris Operating System
CPU HP 9000 Series 700 or 800 processor for hp-ux 11.0 Sun Solaris Operating System (SPARC) Processor
Temporary Disk Space 500 MB 500 MB
Disk Space 1.5 GB 750 MB
Memory 512 MB 512 MB
Swap Space 1 GB 1 GB

4.1.1 Checking the Hardware Requirements

The system must meet the following minimum hardware requirements:

  • 512 MB of physical RAM

  • 1 GB of swap space (or twice the size of RAM)

On systems with 2 GB or more of RAM, the swap space can be between one and two times the size of RAM.

  • 500 MB of disk space in the /tmp directory

  • Between 750 GB and 1.5 GB of disk space for the Oracle software, depending on the installation type and platform

To ensure that the system meets these requirements, follow these steps:

  1. To determine the physical RAM size, enter one of the following commands:

    Operating System Command
    hp-ux # /usr/sbin/dmesg | grep "Physical:"
    Solaris # usr/sbin/prtconf | grep "Memory size"

If the size of the physical RAM installed in the system is less than the required size, you must install more memory before continuing.

  2. To determine the size of the configured swap space, enter one of the following commands:

    Operating System Command
    hp-ux # /usr/sbin/swapinfo -a
    Solaris # /usr/sbin/swap -s

If necessary, see your operating system documentation for information about how to configure additional swap space.

The follow section describes the software requirements for Oracle Transparent Gateway for IngresII.

4.2.1 Operating System

Table 4-2 shows the operating system version required for Oracle Transparent Gateway for Ingres II for Solaris Operating System and hp-ux.

Table 4-2 Operating Systems version for Oracle Transparent Gateway for Ingres II

Operating System Version
Solaris Solaris 8 or Solaris 9, 64-bit
hp-ux hp-ux 11i (11.11) PA-RISC

4.2.2 Checking the Software Requirements

To ensure that the system meets the software requirements, follow these steps:

  • To determine which version of hp-ux is installed, enter the following command:

    # uname -a
    HP-UX hostname B.11.11 U 9000/800 109444686 unlimited-user license

  • To determine which version of Solaris Operating System is installed, enter the following command:

    # uname -r

If your operating system is lower than Solaris 8 (5.8), upgrade your operating system to this level.

4.2.3 Non-Oracle System Requirements

This release of the gateway supports Ingres II. For the latest versions supported refer to the OTN Web site:
